How much does your trailer weigh?

The trailer weighs about 1,200 lbs. empty. When loaded with the bedding, full water tank, porta potty, all our clothes and supplies for a week-long trip, it tips the scales right at 1,500 lbs.

Where did you get that cool tent that wraps around the hatch?

It’s a Sportz SUV tent by Napier Industries.

What is the thickness and type of aluminum you used on the side and top?

Sides: 3003-H14 Aluminum 48 X 120 inches, 0.063 inch thick
Top and Hatch: 5052-H32 Aluminum 60 x 144 inches, 0.125 inch thick

What are the specs on your axle?

The axle we used was a #9 Dexter Torflex, ten degrees up.

Where did you get your fenders?

The fenders are fiberglass reproduction of the old Kit brand teardrops. I purchased them online from Grant at Li’l Bear Tagalongs.

How did you attach the aluminum siding?

The siding on the sides is adhered with contact cement.The top and hatch are free-floating to allow for thermal expansion and are held in place by gravity and the side moldings.

Do you sell plans?

I do not sell complete sets of plans, but I do offer quite a bit of detailed information elsewhere on this website. The goal of this site is to inspire the reader to create their own design to suit their individual needs.

How long did it take to build your trailer?

No project is every really finished, but the initial construction took 13 months working weekends and the occasional evening.

Where did you buy the whitewall tires and what size are they?

The wheels and hubcaps on the LuxoTear are from a 1949 Ford. The whitewall tires I purchased from Coker Tire. They are 205 75 R15 in size.

Where did you get the moldings?

All of the moldings were hand made from 1/8 inch gage 3/4 inch angle aluminum, annealed and hammer-formed into place. It was fun, but a lot of work.

Do y’all haul dogs in that?

No.

If you were to build another, what would you change?

The windows. They leak when driving in heavy rain storms. That's all.
